I recently found the website www.relocation.com and their moving services to be very informative.

I especially liked their auto relocation website: www.carmovers.com. They had TONS of helpful information on that site. The checklist for how to transport your car was very interesting. Did you know that if you ship your car with an alarm system enabled, you could have a dead battery when it arrives? The website mentioned an instance when the alarm on a car had gone off so many times while in transport that the battery died!

Most people don’t make very many major moves in their life, so it’s helpful to have a website to help you think through all the steps to a successful move.

Zeitgeist Movie

OK, Have any of you seen this movie? It's very hard to explain, but basically if you took every conspiracy theory you ever heard (except Area 51/aliens) and put them all in a 2-hour movie, that would be Zeitgeist.

It's all about how our country (and the world) is out to control us, etc, etc. Here's the link:

http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/index.html

Please, if you go watch it, and you probably should, leave me a comment or link to your blog about it. I'm really interested to see what people think about it. Aaron heard about it from another friend and decided to watch it yesterday. This morning he talked to me about the movie non-stop for about 3 hours! It really made him think.

I already knew a bunch of the things that they talked about, so it didn't surprise me as much as it did him, so I see why he was so freaked out by it. There is a lot of references to history in the movie- both American history and world history. I am very interested to hear what my history and politics friends have to say about it.

It starts out a little slow, but it picks up steam quickly.

Edit: Here are some follow-up links that a friend gave me. I'm not endorsing any of them, of course read at your own risk (:

Odd phone call...

So tell me what you would do in the following situation:

*ring-ring*
(dang, I'm at work, have to let it go to VM)
*VM ring*

...

Lunchtime: Check VM!

"Hi this is Joe E****, calling for Chris O****, from XYZ company. Saw your resume on monster.com and wanted to tell you about a career opportunity .... (goes on with is pitch about the position) ... We'll be interviewing next week so give me a call back at xxx-xxxx extension xxxx if you're interested."

...

Well, being as 1)my name isn't Chris O*** or even Chris or Christina, 2)my name is clearly on my VM message and 3)he never addresses me by name, I call back and let him know "I'm sorry but you seemed to have called me at xxx-xxxx for Chris O*** and must have the wrong number."

No problem, I'm being 'the nice guy' by telling him, don't want this Chris guy to miss his opportunity at an interview just cause the number was hard to read or the guy fat-fingered it. Right?

...

Joe calls back in the afternoon!

"Hi Candy, actually I was calling for you, FOR Chris O***, who is the General Manager of XYZ company. Saw your resume on monster.com...... (gives me the pitch again...) We'll be interviewing next week so give me a call back at xxx-xxxx extension xxxx if you're interested."

...

Is it just me having a huge mis-understanding? Or should the guy have clarified "I'm calling on behalf of Chris O***"? Really threw me for a loop when he said he was calling for me, so I went back and listened to the 1st message again. Nope, still says "calling for Chris O***...".

*shakes head*

Woo hoo, the 4th of July!

Not sure why I am so excited for the 4th this year. Maybe it's because of it landing on a Friday = 3-day weekend? In any case, lots of eating and fire-work-watching shall take place.

I have two parties to choose from this weekend... 1) My parent's annual bash down town near Rosenblatt- fun, traditional, neat fireworks, etc. 2) Aaron's cousin Steve and his wife Charity just bought a house and invited a bunch of people over for an open house/party- new and different, not as many crazy people; but lack of Rosenblatt fireworks is ):

Tomorrow I get to start my day by going with my dad to Fremont to chop and haul some free firewood... fun, fun! It will be good bonding time though. For a bonus I also get to deliver an order to one of my customers w/o spending my own gas! (I sell scrapbooking supplies on the side, so if you need any... www.mycmsite.com/cbless).

On an entirely separate topic, I have been going back to the gym lately. So far I've been 9? times in 3 weeks (have to check my calendar at home for sure). Stepped on a scale for the first time in.... years.... and it was not pretty ): I'm trying to stay motivated! Anyone in Omaha want to join me for a workout? Have a free 'gym' at my apartment complex!

PayPerPost.com, check it out!

I have recently signed up with a service called PayPerPost! (www.payperpost.com) The idea behind this company is that bloggers have audiences that are interested in reading what they have to say and value their opinions. This is a marketable tool for companies looking for advertising.

My interest in PayPerPost came through my fiancé, Aaron. He was looking for an at-home opportunity that he could use to earn a few extra bucks on his time off. There are a lot of scams out there that require you to pay for ‘training’ or ‘materials’, when in reality, all they want to do is run off with your money while you do all their work for free. This is not one of those scams!

PayPerPost allows bloggers to take advantage of companies’ need for advertising, coupled with their captive audiences. The opportunities range from a few dollars up to the largest one I saw, $135! Just for writing about a product or service in your blog!
I plan to put the extra money to good work paying off some bills and then into savings for my wedding/honeymoon fund! Even a few extra bucks will help stretch my budget enough to give some wiggle room!

If you’d like to check it out, go to their website at www.payperpost.com. It’s free to sign up, and it will give you an idea of the type of offers that are available to you. If you have any questions about it, I’d be glad to answer them. (Plus if you sign up through my link, I get a bonus!)

Thanks for reading!

wedding gifts?

This'll be a quickie post b/c i'm running out the door, but how do you feel about giving gifts at weddings? I was reading a message board and they were complaining about the guests that came and didn't give a gift. Here was my reply:

"So, after reading this board, I have a question from those who posted about gift giving. What do you think about people who can't afford to give a decent gift, but take the time out to go to your wedding?

Would you rather they give a (to them) demeaning gift of +/- $5 or not give a gift or just not come? I'm curious to know your opinions on this.

As for me, my finance and I have been in our relationship for 7 years and I don't even know what I will put on my gift registry as we have all the stuff we need already! I would rather my guests feel welcome at my wedding even if they can't bring a gift than have them be embarrassed and not come at all."

Thoughts? Will post more later!

Edit: Here's the link to the message board: http://talk.theknot.com/boards/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=51709529 There are some really shallow people on there!!!

I took pictures of the carnage of the storm yesterday afternoon in Omaha. Judging from the news last night there are WAY worse areas of Omaha, but I opted not to go gawking and mucking up traffic. These are all pictures around my apartment complex a few hours after the storm. I'm glad I wasn't there when it happened!

Writer's Block: Entering the Game

Are you the kind of person who prefers to enter a game with strategies and codes, or do you like to go into it without any help?

View other answers

I would rather enter the game knowing the rules, but not with any help that other players wouldn't have. Usually I make a go of the game before I go looking for codes or helps.

Now, if all the other players have the same 'cheats' or codes, as part of the game, I'm all for that. I would rather just see and play the game as it was intended to be, and not have g_d-like powers if that wasn't the original intent of it.

Hello!

I stumbled upon your community and thought it was awesome!

As a girlie with long-long hair, it seemed like the perfect community for me! I've included some pics, although I would appreciate some advice on how to take good hair pics...

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2217797&l=b6189&id=16914993

Does anyone else have problems with shedding!?! I always thought it was normal for us long-hair people to shed constantly, since my mother also has really long hair. Recently I'm starting to wonder... and my finance would LOVE it if I didn't shed as much (:

Thanks for the great community!

Technology- Where do we stand?

Ok, so I know that my workplace is sorta in the "stone age" as far as technology goes (my machine is still running Windows98). It stems partly from being a non-profit and therefore lacking the funds to keep everything "up to the minute" as far as computers go.

My question is this: How many of you still use 3.5 in floppys at work? How about at home? If you don't use floppys, what do you use? (shared network, USB sticks, CD-RW, online storage systems....) I'd also be curious as to what type of work you do on your computer for comparison to my work.

As for me, my 6 month old home computer didn't come with a floppy drive, so I use USB or e-mail for transferring files. At work we still use floppys a lot, but we're trying to get everyone away from those and more onto USB drives.

I'd just like to know where we stand.

Today I was very "environmental". I went to the Farmer's Market out at Village Point to table for the Sierra Club. (read: sat and held down flyers during a windy morning while most people just ignored us.)

After that I went to a Rain Barrel making workshop. It was hosted by the Green Neighborhood Council and City Sprouts. Even though I don't have a house, I'd like to have one some day, and I think I would make a good use of a rain barrel.

The workshop was very interesting. Some facts I learned )

Wow, more tornados in the midwest and in Omaha.

This time I got to spend around an hour and a half in a hot basement hallway with ~50 little dancer girls at my siblings' dance recitle. You have not SEEN torture until you have experienced this.

The little girls were scared, the big girls were mad, the parents were trying to keep the girls' costumes in one piece; and everyone was talking and tapping (think tap-shoes) and generally being stir-crazy. Ninety minutes of this.......... ugh.

Eventually they deemed it safe enough to continue on with the show. Still I didn't get home until midnight. Yeay, 6.5 hours of dancing FUN!

I'm tired today, I wonder why....
